Everything You Need to Know About Zuri Okonkwo-Hale's Launderette Drop
Sixty-two jackets, one wash cycle, no announcement. Our trend analyst sets out what is confirmed about Tallow Court's latest surprise, and what she said in 2023 that she would like you to forget.

The first photograph appeared at 6:52 on Thursday morning. A rail of orange coach jackets inside Pardoe's Launderette on Chatsworth Road, dryer four still turning behind it. No caption. No date. By 7:30 there were 140 people on the pavement.
Here is what is confirmed. There are 62 jackets. They are waxed cotton, lined in a grey flannel that smells faintly of the building. They cost £210. The last one sold at 11:15. Zuri Okonkwo-Hale, who founded Tallow Court, was inside the whole time, folding.
Here is what is not confirmed. The name of the collection. Whether there is a second piece. Whether the launderette is a location or a collaborator. Pardoe's owner has said only that the machines were free before nine and that nobody asked her permission to be a set.
Now the part I have been avoiding. In March 2023 I wrote a column called The Drop Is Dead. I said that by spring 2025 every serious label would sell from a permanent shelf, like bread. I gave it a confidence rating of 90 percent. I framed the column. I have since taken the frame down and put it in a drawer under the takeaway menus.
Okonkwo-Hale did not respond to the column. She responded to the calendar. Since 2023 Tallow Court has dropped eleven times, always without warning, always somewhere slightly inconvenient. A bus depot. A chess club's back room. A car wash, on a Sunday, in drizzle.
So what is the logic? My current theory is that the surprise is the product and the jacket is the receipt. I held a similar theory in 2021, about socks, and it was wrong. I hold this one at 55 percent, which is the most honest number I have ever published.
What can you do with this? If you want one, watch the pavement, not the app. Every Tallow Court location so far has been within a ten-minute walk of a place that is warm and has a seat. Dress for queuing. Bring a card, not a cheque, and certainly not a theory.
One more detail, because it is the best one. Yesterday a woman who had been in the queue since 7:05 reached the front, saw the last jacket go, and asked the founder if there would be a restock. Okonkwo-Hale pointed at dryer four and said it was still running.
It is Halloween. The jackets are orange. I am told this is a coincidence, and for once I am inclined to believe the label over the analyst.
